Bill Templin – President
Following a career in hydrology with the U.S. Geological Survey, Bill accepted a 3 year, grant-funded position as the Watershed Coordinator for the North Fork American River Watershed. As the Watershed Coordinator, and an avid fisherman, Bill monitored the watersheds populations of “aquatic vertebrate assemblages” using wild trout as “indicators of the watershed health”. Bill was instrumental in forming the Upper American River Foundation (UARF). Bill is now working full time with the State of California as an Environmental Scientist, and he is actively involved as a Board Member on several non-profit watershed and sportsman’s organizations in the Central Valley and Sierra Nevada.
Matt Setty – Vice President Matt is our newest board member. He is a hydrologist and land owner in the watershed up near Iowa Hill with special interests in sediment, erosion reduction, and minimizing mining impacts on the watershed (a photo and more bio information on Matt will be available soon).
John Gaffney – Treasurer
John is a retired state government attorney who has seen much of this watershed from horseback. He has been with UARF from it’s beginning in 2006 and was the key person who helped us get our 501c3 nonprofit status. John tracks our finances and is our councilor on all issues related to activities that we can and can’t do within our 501c3 limitations. John lives in the Cool area near the confluence of the North Fork and Middle Forks of the American River (shown in the photo to the left).
Dan Bacher – Media Director
Dan was one of the first set of UARF Board Members and is very interested in the health of the watershed and it’s fisheries. Dan is the Editor of the Fish Sniffer Magazine and is very active in Northern California environmental issues.
Jennifer Hemmert – Secretary, Angler Surveys and Water Quality Issues
Jen has gained significant experience in our local Sierra region over the past few years. She is a graduate of Ohio State University with a BS in Zoology, concentrating on freshwater fisheries. She is presently working with the State of California on fish tracking studies, but she has extensive experience with SYRCL (South Yuba River Citizens League) and the Sierra Nevada Alliance, setting up and monitoring water quality networks, salmon restoration, and public outreach activities in the Sierras. Jen is a great addition to our Board and we look forward to tapping her energies and expertise whenever possible.
